13 Life-Changing Travel Lessons You Learn Through Traveling
1. Growth
First up is experiencing growth when you begin to travel. Growth is something that happens when you sometimes do not even realize. You will learn to do things on your own when you start traveling. There are many ways to book travel. You could hire a travel agent or do travel bundles, it is up to you and who you travel with to ensure everything is booked. When you decide to take on additional responsibility, you find growth in that. Growth is something that happens when you do something new. Learning is a way we grow and there is a lot of learning the more traveling you do.
Also, you will grow by having different experiences. When you decide to do something outside of your daily, monthly, or even yearly routine, you will find growth. Growth is not an easy thing but it is a beautiful thing, embrace it. 🙂
2. New Friends
Second up is friends! Whether you travel solo or in a group, a new interest bonds people. While you might have some friends that are literally the polar opposite, a lot of people make friends based on similarities. Join some travel groups online to meet people and get advice from their travel experiences. Travelers love to share their experiences and connect with fellow travelers. Many travel groups are super friendly.
When you begin to travel with friends or family you will really get to know them. In the end, you will find out who you want to travel with and who you might not mesh with. This is not a fun lesson at times, but when you find those people you click with on vacation, the bad times are worth it. And that is ok if you do not want to travel with certain people. It happens often when you are like ok, never again. However, when you find those travel buddies they are the best friends and you will begin to share a bond. The travel buddies whether new (or old) friends will hold a different bond than anyone else.
3. Independence
You will find a newfound independence when you decide to travel or travel more. There will be people that do not understand why you have that itch to travel. And that’s ok! What makes the world beautiful is our unique differences and experiences. If you want to book that last minute trip to Aruba, do it. You may want to go on that solo trip because you are a boss babe, do it. If you want to plan that big trip with all your favorite girls every year, do it! This is your life and having the freedom to travel and do what you want on your terms will give you a sense of independence.
Independence in life is something many people run from. However, this is also goes back to growth. Be independent and do what you want no matter what everyone is saying around you. You will not regret experiencing this gorgeous world we live in.

You could go to all the places you want to go to without any compromise. How amazing is that?!
Group traveling:
If you want to choose a travel group to go with, there is still freedom in that! One of the most wonderful parts of being able to travel is the freedom of all the places you could see. Traveling makes you feel free since you are deciding what to do and enjoying the world. The world is yours and it is a beautiful place.

When you decide to start traveling, it will teach you gratitude. There are many people that cannot travel for many reasons. It could be financial, family reasons (baby at home), or even political (country has travel restrictions). If you are blessed to live in a country that allows you the choice to travel, that is something to be grateful for. In addition, if you are in a first world country, you will also see how blessed you are in your home country. You will begin to look at the world in a different light and be grateful for all you have. Whether that be clean water, abundance of food, even air conditioning, you will learn gratefulness. Be grateful for the experiences you had and the travel experiences that are yet to come.
6. Culture Shock
This is something that many do not anticipate while traveling, but it happens. You might experience culture shock. You are in a world that is foreign to you, you may or may not speak the language, and it is unfamiliar. When you have a combination of even one of those things, you will experience culture shock. Culture shock is a humbling experience because you truly have to find it within yourself at times to ask for help. You might get lost on your way in your journey or you might experience a language barrier. While these could all be frustrating, you will get through it. Almost every traveler has experienced culture shock. Culture shock happens to many (if not all) travelers. You are not alone, and many people around the world are nice! They have likely been in your shoes at one point. Be humble, be kind, give yourself and others grace. This is part of traveling and you will learn and grow from it.
7. Confidence
Seventh is confidence. Another travel lesson you will learn is to be confident in yourself. You made it, you did it! You should be proud. When you make a promise to yourself, no matter how big or how small, you keep it. The most important promises are the ones to yourself. This will build your self-esteem and confidence by being a person of your word. You need to put yourself first and experience life for you before you could help others. Confidence is built when you do things on your own even if you make mistakes along the way. Mistakes and failures are part of life but how we learn and grow. Even if you are in a group and traveling, you still did this trip for yourself. Be confident, be proud, you deserve the world and to see it.
8. Personal Development
Are you a person that is wants to embark on a personal development journey? Good, because this one is for you. Traveling will allow you to continually develop yourself. When you travel, this allows for you to personally grow in a different way because you now need to step outside of your comfort zone. Challenge yourself to step outside of your comfort zone. It will not only make you stronger, but you will grow and become better. Whether this is taking that first solo trip, or navigating the streets of London on your own, you will be sure to grow from it.
9. Improved Decision Making
When you start to travel you will make a lot of decisions. What hotel do I stay at? Where to travel to next? Where to eat? You will learn how to make decisions and make them quick. Depending on where you travel you might have to make these decisions last minute. Problem solving skills are amazing skills to have. With traveling, you will eventually see improvement in your decision making and problem solving.
10. Patience/Flexibility
An amazing travel lesson is patience! Things will not always go according to plan. That is part of life in general but traveling this happens often. There are many circumstances that are out of your control. If a flight gets delayed, your transportation canceled, the weather is not great, or the restaurant is out of your favorite dessert, you will need to learn patience. Be flexible and know that likely plans could change. It is better to be overprepared and have a plan B or C.
11. Organization
Organization is an amazing skill to have. When you travel, especially solo you will learn to be organized. This is vital to not forget anything on that travel list. There is a lot to prepare for any trip. Therefore, staying organized and knowing what you need to pack and what to book will come in handy. Write everything down whether that is in a notebook or virtual and this will keep you stress free and organized.
12. Perspective Shift
When you begin to travel you will realize your perspective on life begin to shift. The love for travel starts to sink in (or maybe not and that’s ok 🙂 ) and you will view life differently. There are typically two paths either you get that travel bug and start to budget and plan out your next trip. Yes, sometimes planning the next trip even happens on that current vacation. Or you realize traveling or traveling often is not for you and realize where you want your money to go instead. Either way you will begin to look at your life and the world around you through a different lens once you see a piece of the world.
13. Differences are Beautiful
Lastly, what makes the world a beautiful place is the differences we share. Everyone has a difference in opinion on what the best places are to travel, eat, and how to live life. When you decide to start traveling or travel more, you realize the differences around the world. People are different everywhere and we could all learn from each other. Embrace the change and differences as you see this gorgeous world. xx
The travel lessons you will learn will be some of the best life lessons. Traveling will bring you a perspective like no other. If you are open minded and want to learn about different cultures, you will change for the better. Do not run from change, embrace it. It is in our vulnerable and growth stages that we turn into a better version of ourselves.
